Small things

Macy picked this flower for me, and it had a small guest. The second picture shows how small -- the spider is in the same place on the flower compared to a penny. On the down-side, I had to go take care of kid issues during this "shoot," we now have an added spider in the house (sorry honey... at least he's small!).

The Lord's Jeweler

I met this man in downtown Columbia. He claimed to have been stabbed and shot in the back in Vietnam, and saw God in a bright cyclone-like cloud telling him it was not time for him to go. He makes jewelry from found copper, and "takes donations" for it on the street. When people ask him why he makes crosses, he tells them "because of the Lord... he is all that matters." Who knows whether the story is true, or whether he saw my interest in the cross, and played it up, but does it really matter? The message is sound and timely.

Orchid Study Revisited

After finding out that my images look totally different on other people's monitors than on mine, and realizing that what they looked like on other monitors closely resembled what they looked like on my printer, I stopped blaming my printer for not being color accurate, and went on a search for a new monitor (couldn't adjust the monitor enough to make things right). Last night, I couldn't pull the trigger, and in exploration of what kid of video card I had, I found the ability to adjust the image using a gamma setting in the video card. Voila, no need to buy a new monitor! So, to celebrate, I'm putting these images back out to show you more what I was seeing when I first posted the horrid orchid art project. OK, a colleague of mine just saved me hours of work. You can blog pictures directly from Picasa, which is a free Google image management program. No more resizing and uploading images!
