Sunsets

Sunsets are one of my favorite things. No two are the same, and each has its own beauty.

St. John

Found a few more St. John pictures. This hummingbird frequented the beautiful flowers around our deck. They don't sit still much, but I had time to wait for a shot. The closeup is a crop from the picture below it. Credit the Canon L series lens for the quick focus and beautiful bokeh (blurred out-of-focus background).

While looking for some images, I came across these flowers that I took during our last trip to Tallahassee.

Time with the kids

We took Macy and Calvin to a nearby park with a recreation of the town of Shoal Creek. It is fairly challenging to get both of them to smile, but with patience, we captured a few of their wonderful moments.

Fall

Fall has been beautiful in Kansas City this year. over 80 degrees today. Trees aren't sure what to do, but have been giving us color for several weeks. I haven't had a chance to take many pictures, but here are a few.

Wedding Fun

We attended the wedding of one of Sue's best friends, and I was asked to take some pictures during the service... I'm not sure they knew how many I would take. I haven't had that much fun at a wedding for a long time. Tough lighting. I felt sorry for the pro taking their "real" pictures!

Moving Water

I can clearly remember walking out on the rocks in St. John to take this picture. Solitude with my camera, water, and God.

Hanging out in Albuquerque

We had a great visit with Liane, Joel, and Greta in Albuquerque. Highlights were seeing Macy and Greta play the piano, Macy ride Cleo, and the Balloon Festival.

Calvin Portrait

One of my favorite pictures of Calvin. He is such a joy to have in our lives it is hard to remember the fear and sense of loss we experienced at his birth even only one year later. I have am certain he will provide unexpected joy for a lot of people in his life.

Cowboy party

One of our friends had a cowboy party for their son's first birthday. Calvin actually ate more hotdog than he's ever eaten of anything else... which had a strange effect on his facial hair...

We also got our first new car today. Toyota Sienna minivan. Lots of space for kids and family. Just hard to plunk down the payment, since I'm such a deal-seeker, and Sue just wanted to be done shopping (OK, so did I). Hopefully last car for at least 10 years.

Long walk to Harvard

Who knew we would never get there. But who knew how beautiful it would be along the way. Six men taking a break from family for a weekend of camping and hiking. 6 miles to the summit, three above the tree line. Amazingly beautiful.

Beach Living

I'm trying to do something differnt than cliche beach pictures, and the weather helped in this case. So did the oyster boats -- something that had no beauty to me when I lived in Florida, but which is so unique to the culture of this area, that it is hard to not appreciate them now.
